There are old faults all over the place. They are deep, inactive, and little is known about them. The east coast often experiences small earthquakes from these old faults.

Actually there are other fault lines that simply aren’t mapped. I guess they are just minor and less active. I’m over here in DE, supposedly there is a fault line that runs right along our part of I-95. Maybe it also runs into Jersey.
No cause really other than the usual causes. Plates move, the Earth burped. I just hope it’s not a warning of worse and that is it. lol
