Would this benefit us in any way?
- Yes! Hotels near Manhattan in NJ are cheaper or will cost the same with more amenities.

Would the commute be a hassle?
- No. Trains, buses and ferries run from NJ to NY depending on where you stay.

Should we bother staying in New Jersey, or just stay directly in New York?
- It depends on the rate you find.

Here’s the Shearton at around US$139. It is less than 10 minutes from NYC by ferry for around US$5. Are you familar with “Miracle on the Hudson”? This hotel isn’t too far away from the ditch area.

Staying in New Jersey is a great idea. The commute shouldn’t be too bad, depending on how you commute…

Here is a hotel I suggest, the Hyatt. It is beautiful, hopefully it isn’t out of your price range. It is located in NJ, but it is right on the border.

It gives you the joy of the city, without being stuck in the middle of the hustle and bustle! I believe a ferry will take you back and forth from the city to the hotel. This makes the commute a lot easier.

Enjoy your trip! [:

With the global recession, I think you will find that NYC hotel rates are fairly reasonable. I do not think staying in NJ is worth the hassle, and you’ll only save about $30 per night for a comparable hotel. Sightseeing and shopping in NYC is exhausting, and you acquire a lot of packages, and you will likely want to be able to go back to your hotel once or twice during the day. Check out HotWired.com or Priceline.com for great rates. And check out this guide to New York City that will tell you where to find all the information you need to plan a perfect trip.

you may be able to get cheaper hotels on the jersey side – commuting is not bad as long as you have a hotel near the subway. some of the hotels also offer a shuttle service. you should check out websites such as priceline and see if you can get a cheap rate in Manhattan – the nyc atmosphere is wonderful and you might just get lucky on a rate depending on when your trip is planned. go on line you can find cheaper broadway tickets, you can go and be in the studio audience for free for some shows. little italy has wonderful and very reasonable lunches. china town has wonderful buys on souvenirs. a walk through central or byrant park is wonderful. have fun!

Best Western Fort Lee (NJ) – within sight of the George Wash. Bridge=2 miles from NYC.

New Jersey Transit’ll take you to the Ft. Washington Bus Terminal that’s on the NY end of the Geo. Wash. Bridge (179th st.), then you can take the A train into Manhattan.

If you’re arriving spring/summer, you can walk along the Palisades (on the NJ side, in Ft. Lee) from the Bridge – about a mile up there’s an overlook. Nice views of the Hudson and surrounding areas.
