You need to not wait and see if they contact you. Your illegal use of the EZ-Pass lane was almost certainly recorded and will turn into some sort of violation if you do nothing (another answer mentioned a $75.00 fine).

Call them on the phone, explain you were in the EZ-Pass lane by mistake, and ask how you can pay the toll. There is a good chance you can avoid the fine by paying the toll asap.

I would go to the next exit and exit, get on again and then go in the opposite direction. If you try to turn around right away, they will charge you the whole toll from the beginning in the opposite direction.

The penalty is death by firing squad…Seriously, though. I don’t know about NY, but Florida lets you send your payment through the mail for a first time oopsy…
