Yes, Elizabeth is considered a High Crime area.
A lot of the crime is gang/drug related. It’s not as dangerous as Camden, NJ. But Elizabeth shares a town border with Newark, also a high crime town.
But that’s not to say there aren’t nice areas. Many of my family friends live in some of the gentrified areas which are still nice. If you do decide to move there, try Spiritos Pizza and a few blocks down is one of the best Italian Ices you’ll ever have.
However, the crime rate has dropped in the past few years. And Mayor Christian Bowlage is working hard to curb it. My advice is ask you realtor why the price is so low. If they use buzz words like “area on the rise” or “turning around.” You’ll be in a section you may not want to be in.
