Nice cut-and-paste from the “Skeptics Annotated,” and nice rack…lol.

But, I’m on your side. It’s absolutely true – the Bible contradicts itself throughout; but it’s a waste of time pointing that out to “religious” people. Anyway, to quibble over details is to relegate to the backburner the far more important consideration – that the entire book is a collection of fables. All the difficulties disappear if we simply remember that we’re not reading a history or science text, but a symbolic mythology. It’s ironic that modern-day “literalists” are too dense to grasp the actual value of Scripture, because they’re stuck on the idea that it consists in forcing themselves to believe impossible things.

In the case of Gen. 1:31 God had just completed his creation. They were perfect. By the time of Gen. 6:5,6, his creation was decidedly imperfect. It’s like a father looking at a new born child and loving it and saying he’s perfect. He has all tne fingers and toes. Then fast foward 14 or 15 years and that same perfect child is now a disappointment to his parents because he’s now a juvenile delinquent.

I will get a copy of the Muslim book that contains these contradictions one day soon, and I will personally debunk each and every one. In order, for you to have read these yourself as you claim, you would have to have read the entire bible, and you would know they are not contradictions had you done so. The word annunciation is not in the bible anywhere, so I know it came from another source. Shame on you for pretending to be a scholar.

Same old stuff from atheist sites.

The first one though, GOD himself is a light source.

I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. -John 12:46

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. -2 Corinthians 4:6

All of your copy and paste arguments are not contradictions at all. Have you ever heard of context? You cannot read the Bible out of context. What book have you ever read where you went in and took one sentence out and then took another sentence out from somewhere else in the book and matched them up? If you don’t read the whole chapter or even paragraph you could find contadictions in every book.

Let’s start with the first one: The light that God created on the first day was not the sun, rather a different creation altogether. Further, darkness is also a separate creation, not just the absence of light. Thus, no contradiction.

Alternative answer: God created everything on the first day then simply placed each creation into its proper place on the subsequent days. Again, no contradiction.

I could continue but to do so here, considering the volume you present, is unwieldy. If you want to continue this, please feel free to email me through Y!A and we can address these 1 by 1. Please note: I will only address apparent contradictions between OT passages. I will not address any OT-to-NT or NT-to-NT examples as I consider the NT to be a contradiction in its entirety.

PRECISELY. The bible HAS been tampered with over time.
Here is what the koran has to say:
[2:79]Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say:”This is from Allah,” to traffic with it for miserable price!- Woe to them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby.

Do they not consider the Qur’an (with care)? Had it been from other Than Allah, they would surely have found therein Much discrepancy.

Genesis: Sorry, but why do you call “light” (a state Gen. 1:3-5) and “lights” (specific BODIES of light Gen. 1:14-15) the same thing?

Gen. 2:17: Adam was NOT mortal; he was made as IMMORTAL. As soon as he ate of the tree, he DID die; he lost his immortality.

Leviticus 12:1-8 “God requires purification rites following childbirth which, in effect, makes childbirth a sin.”. No, it says she is “CEREMONIAL UNCLEAN” for a period of time which has nothing to do with childbirth being a sin.

Quite frankly, you’re showing your ignorance. If you understood ANYTHING about the Bible you’d understand that these are NOT condradictions; just things OTHER people (because we all know you didn’t find these) “say” are condradictions so they can throw stones at something they don’t understand.

Some body’s already said that it as been rewritten and changed over time. It’s also natural that it as been changed to fit the needs of the powers that be …

However its what is important, and some people fail to realize is that what is written on the bible are only stories, not History, and what is important about those stories, or at least some of them, is not if the events they represent actually happened but the message in them . Its basically a large book on philosophy and psychology written over a large period of time based on popular culture.

1. God created light before the light source. No real contradiction there.

2. If you read a little further in Genesis 2:8, you will see that it says God had planted a garden… *had* past tense. No contradiction there.

3. Same as #2. Verse 19 uses the past tense, indicating that it had already been done.

4. Same as #2 and 3

5. As you no doubt have gathered, Genesis 1 is an overview. Chapters 2 and 3 are the detailed accounts. It is kind of like reading the table of contents before reading the book.

6. Example 1 is before sin entered the world. Things changed after the fact. Hence the need for atonement.

7. Omniscience translates into “All-knowing”. God can be all-knowing and still be displeased. Just because I know what my children do doesn’t mean I am pleased with everything they do.

8. Genesis was written after the fact. The person who wrote it referred to God in the common connotation of the time. All this shows is that Genesis was written at or about the same time as Exodus. Actually, it seems logical to me that the Hebrews would think “Hey, this stuff is kinda important. Maybe we should write some of it down” after being delivered from Egypt and given the commandments.

9. Adam died spiritually, meaning that the connection to God that he previously enjoyed was severed. He could no longer walk with God in the cool of the day.

10. I don’t know about you, but I want my children to remain ignorant about a lot of the evil in the world until they are of an age where they can understand it without being overwhelmed. My 10, 7, and 5 year olds are not equipped to understand the war in Iraq, for example. What’s wrong with wanting to protect your children if you can? Now keep in mind that there was no evil in the world prior to Adam eating the apple. Satan had no real dominion until Adam gave it to him. So, there was no need for them to know about evil at all. In short, God wanted Adam and Eve to remain ignorant of the fact that they had the free will to choose between doing something right and wrong. A lot of people disagree on whether that was the right move on God’s part or not.

I think that answering 10 of your objections is enough for you to see that we are just going to disagree. I have other things to do today and cannot sit here for hours answering your question.

Religion falsifies spirituality by saying that God should be “worshiped.” God is not a person but we personify him to make it easier to understand the concept. The bible is a piece of literature and has of course been reinterpreted many times over the years. It also lost some meaning in translation i am sure. The point is that the bible is not meant to be taken literally but the lessons it presents are meant to be considered and help people understand that there is a higher power.

And no, I have never read the bible and am not a christian. I just believe in the existence of a higher power.

1. When God created light and darkness, the heavens were not yet created. There was water above, and water below. So, how do you know if He didn’t create the light and darkness in a different form, then later create the sun for day, and the moon for night, just like it says??
2. Genesis 1 tells about the creation in order. Genesis 2 does not. And when it talks about the Garden of Eden being “planted” that doesn’t mean there weren’t other trees on the earth, because this is speaking SPECIFICALLY about the Garden of Eden.
3.Birds before man. Like I said, Gen. 1 is in the order in which God created, Gen. 2 is not! He is simply referring back to it.
3. Same thing with the animals and man being created-Gen. 1 in order, Gen. 2-not in order.
4. Gen 1:27–It says-So God created MAN in His image; in the image of God He created them, male and female. It still says He created Man first. It doesn’t say He created them at the same time. Gen. 2:21,22-This is simply a detailed description of God creating man. Gen. 1 first tells what God created in order, Gen. 2. describes things in more detail. It’s pretty simple.
4.Why are you comparing God’s command to be fruitful and multiply with God’s command for the Jews to be cleansed when they have children? It’s got to do with purification from the blood flow from childbirth. How is that a contradiction of Gen.2? He’s not telling the Jews not to bear children!
5 . God was pleased with His creation when He created it!! It says so. In Gen. 6, AFTER THE FALLEN ANGELS MARRIED HUMAN WOMEN, THEN EVIL BECAME RAMPANT ON THE EARTH. This was a different circumstance than when God first created everything. God says everything is good BEFORE Adam even sinned.
6.MOSES WROTE GENESIS!!!!
7. The Bible never says Adam was to die THE VERY DAY HE ATE THE FRUIT. Where does it say that???? It just says they would surely die! And that’s the truth. God didn’t create us to die, but as soon as Adam sinned, death entered the world. Spiritual death, and eventually, physical death. You are as smart as you think you are, and you certainly have taken everything so far out of context, and TWISTED God’s Holy Word to suit your evil intentions of discrediting it! I don’t find any contradictions so far!! Shall I go on????
8. When God created man, He did not intend for him to know the difference from good and evil, but since man sinned, we do.
Hebrews was written after Jesus came and died on the cross, and the HOLY SPIRIT was given to men. The HOLY SPIRIT descerns good from evil.
9. God was pleased with Abel becaue he brought him an offering of his first fruits, which was the best of what he had. Caine gave God what was leftover. Abel had a love for God. Caine didn’t. In Chronicles, it is speaking about RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT. In Acts, read the next verse. “But in every nation WHOEVER FEARS HIM AND WORKS RIGHTEOUSNESS IS ACCEPTED BY HIM.

Nothing like taking the Bible out of context!!
You’ve only asked for me to pick out one and tell you how it isn’t a contradiction or inconsistancy. I’ve shown you the first Nine out of nine that they are not!! I’m going to ASSUME the rest of them are the same thing. Just a bunch of twisted words you tried to make out the Bible to be false, and you haven’t proven one thing. At least not to me. You are going to have a hard time proving any of this to anyone who knows the word of God. YOU CERTAINLY DON’T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m not going to waste my time reading the rest of your rubbish. Good day.

No one should shy away from the hard questions about God and the Bible. They should be asked, not only be unbelievers, but by Believers as well. But be careful that you are not believing an answer because it is what you want to believe. If the Bible is true, the implications will last an eternity. If it is not true, the implications are meaningless. Accordingly, wisdom would assume them true until proven false, not the other way around.

I have written a book on math and had readers email me and tell me that things I said contradicted themselves. In other words, they used their interpretation to draw a conclusion about what I meant, instead of asking me what I meant (the author) by my statements.

You write a book about yourself…the true interpretation is what you meant, not what others accuse you to have meant.

If you really want to understand this life, the Bible and God, email me. If not, I pray that He will someday stir your heart.

The Bible is simply a religious text, like many religious texts in the world. It has its basis in Sumerian writings dating from thousands of years earlier.

The Bible contains many truths, but also many distortions of the truth. The biggest problem is that the Bible is primarily a symbolic work but many people want to interpret it literally.

The stories of creation in Genesis, Noah’s ark, Adam & Eve are all perfect examples of symbolic parables with important truths that get lost in literal interpretation.

The greatest tragedy of all is that, as Jesus plainly tells us, God is a God of pure Love. Unfortunately, the Old Testament Jehova is jealous, wrathful and petty. Our justifications for war continue to find basis in these religious teachings.

God is pure Love, everything else is from the mind of man.

The bible is a really righteous book but it was written by people. People contradict themselves constantly. Who really knows what is right and wrong?

I feel that Jesus’ message is simple. Live a life of Joy. Help people when you can. Don’t judge others. All of the guilt, sin, hell, etc, is created by man and woman. So is the Bible…:)

You must have a lot of time on your hands! Why would you go through all this trouble to prove that the Bible is wrong when you know faith is a belief in something not seen or provable. People will continue having faith. You could have put your time not into learning about things you consider myths, unless it’s your job to be a historian, but learning truths. It is more logical to teach what is correct then tell people what is not correct, because at the end of the day when you get rid of everyones only belief their is only one to go back to: the old one. So make something new for people to do.
