You will need a NJ Certificate to sub. You can get a sub certificate as long as you have 60 college credits. The district you are applying to will tell you how to file for your certificate.

If you want to get a NJ Instructional Certificate you will have to follow the steps on the website. Depending where your are currently certified you may need to take a praxis. You can sub with a full instructional cert.

If you have a Teacher Certification (Licensure) from another state, then you likely can substitute teach in NJ, however, you should check with the state requirements first. Each state is different and not all states are reciprocal, although many are. Check this site for NJ requirements:
